Listening to my body means breakfast happens to be right now today, listening to my tummy dance dance dance means that I just whipped up a scrumptious breakfast with my fabulous new peice of equipment- the one and only vitamix. As always, craigslist has treated me right, and helped to manifest this goodness that I am savorin'. What did I make you ask? Raw goodness, of course.

Rhea's Yummy Breakfast--->

Brazil Nut Milk (freshly made last night!)
One Apple
A few raisins
A couple cinnamin sticks
A handful of cashews
A few pinches of nutmeg

All this plus the vitamix made me a yummy poridgy goodness and right now I am feeling fabulous! Now all I need is a chocolate...

Enjoy the beautiful day loves!

Business Cards and more!

Today we got business cards!
Our incredible artist friend Jordyn drew us three wonderful rabbits and we immediately took them to the only place open at 7pm on a Sunday... Kinkos.
I went to Stumptown while Miss Rhea tried to use the computer to format the cards. Unfortunately we both really don't know how to use photoshop. :( So two cups of coffee and $10 later we turned it over to the uniformed people and they made it for us. Rhea picked them up today.
They look great (because Jordyn's bunnies are awesome) but next time we are going somewhere local. But Kinkos worked in a crunch.

In addition I made some chocolate this afternoon (5 Wild Jungle Peanut Butter cups and 10 Theobroma Cacao truffles) I will be getting up at 4 to make some more before work. If all goes well that will include some Mayan money, a few mint, and maybe some more PB cups. I love peanut butter..... !!
Have a lovely evening!

Meditating on chocolate

I was awake this morning at 5 AM! Why did I get up at 5 am? To make chocolate in quiet meditative solitude.
I thought about making chocolate the night before but could not bring myself to go into a kitchen full of people after a 2 hour long bus ride from Barbur Blvd to downtown to home! Sometimes I just reach my limit in terms of social interaction and need to choose my room over public space.
And so I woke up early to the quiet and solitude of the morning. Nobody else is crazy enough to get up that early. I slowly melted, mixed and banged pots and bowls and probably woke up one or more of my roommates who have bedrooms near to the kitchen, but it was a grand time! I made my small little batch of three layered theobroma cacao and still had enough time to catch 15 more minutes of sleep before work..... yawn.... I must get to bed again soon because tomorrow I actually have to work at 5 AM. I can guarantee the getting up will not be nearly as meditative as chocolate. Sweet Dreams!

I dream in colored chocolate

Rhea and I have been very busy lately. I can't believe Rhea is in school with a full load this semester, finishing up stuff from her last semester in Central America, working, co-running the movie night at the Green House (more about this later), and still making time for chocolate. It's fucking incredible!
I have been pretty busy myself, but in the height of my craziness I made some time to go to the Blossoming Lotus. They always have fantastic raw food and I once again had an amazing dinner. But my real reason for going down to that part of town was some sneaky market research. A place . .. (which shall remain unnamed) sells raw chocolate!!

I walked into the place . . very nonchalant. Looked to the right and the left and up and down. The floors are so clean. People were laughing, talking, dating.... I spot the chocolate case! I do a pretty good impression of a tall blond so I put on my most innocent dumb face and walk over. I try to make small talk with a few tables along the way, just so as not to arouse suspicion. I muster up some confidence and talk to the lady behind the counter. She is young... probably my age so I know the demographic well. I soften her with a smile. "Which of these are the raw chocolates pray do tell?" I say. She smiles back "All the ones on the left of the case on the third shelf."

I look . . there are 6 different choices. Nothing is particularly revolutionary to look at (thank goodness). "One of each" I proclaim! "And two of that one... the one with the ginger, to the right of the plain one, yes that one, I mean two of that one....... Thanks."
She stands up and drops the bag on the floor. All the chocolates spill out. She is trying to distract me, the tall dumb blond disguise did not work! "One of each" I say again. She gets them together for me and I pay. F-ing expensive things! Small chocolates, plain, and $3 a piece! All my tip money :(
I try one, it is hard. She asks if I know how chocolate is made. I say "No, I don't know anything, please tell me everything about the competition... I mean chocolate"
She tells me. I go home that night, my head swirling in chocolate. Melts at 90 degrees,76 degrees, agave, cacao, coconut, raw, chocolate, essential oil . .
I dream the best truffle ever! Beautiful, three kinds of chocolate, authentic, and perfect. I made a small batch last week. The best!
I am off to make some now!!

conquering.temptation.

fasting + chocolate making = interesting....and we did it!

day three of a ten day fast and we found ourselves in the kitchen of the little red bike brewin up a yummy batch of chocolates.

i love cleansing. each time i do a cleanse i find myself overcome with an incredible sense of energy and connectness. i don't just walk through the streets, i soar- all of my senses expand-and i radiate-with joy and gratitude for the knowing that i am the source of my own creation, and for all that there is on this wonderful earth!

so yes, today was similar to everyday in the little red bike kitchen- full of life and lots of love- the difference was, we weren't eating half of the chocolate, and despite the challenge, we came out with some kickass truffles and fabulous new ideas!! The best of them being a nutbutter cup foursome- aka the cup collection. We love foursomes, especially involving nutbuttery goodness. Look for these postfast, as we will not be able to make this without eating them!

and for those of you pondering which delicious nuts will be found inside the cup collection here ya'are...

forest zen almond
wild jungle peanut
macadamia cup
squirrel's hazelnut

--i thought i saw a squirrel?

ps. names subject to change without notice.

thank you and have a wonderful evenin' ;)

For our information!

This is an informational blurb I typed up to give out with the chocolates. It's my first attempt at something like this, but unless Rhea gives me some constructive criticism, I think this is what it's going to be for now.

Welcome beautiful healthy people!
The Chocolate Rabbit invites you to devour a delicious decadence once enjoyed only by the gods!

Raw Cacao!

Seriously . . . the official name for cacao is “Theobroma cacao.” which means: “cacao, food of the gods.”

Your mouth will melt and your body will be happy too!

THIS CHOCOLATE IS GOOD FOR YOU!

Here are a few quick reasons why:

The cacao is raw! Raw Foods are foods that contain enzymes. In general, heating food over 116 degrees F destroys enzymes. Cooked food is devoid of these beneficial enzymes! Furthermore cooking food changes the molecular structure of the food and renders it toxic. Living and raw foods also have enormously higher nutrient values than the foods that have been cooked.

The truffles are vegan and organic!
Everyone can enjoy them, they are environmentally friendly, and the addition of dairy to chocolate may block the absorption of all the antioxidants naturally found in cacao..

Cacao is rich in antioxidants!
When compared with red wine and green tea, cacao was the richest source of antioxidants. Antioxidants help protect cells from free radicals which reduces your risk of cancer and slows aging!

Sweetened with Agave nectar! Agave nectar is a natural and organic sweetener and it is the only sweetener used in our truffles. It is unrefined and has a low Glycemic index number. This means that it does not cause blood sugar levels to rise as much and as rapidly as refined sugars.
Cacao is an indulgence. . . everyone needs a little indulgence!

Enjoy!

First two chocolates . . . . SOLD!

Today... formally . . . . officially...momentously.... the chocolates were put out in the case for sale at The Little Red Bike. I had no time to make signs or an informational sheet or anything to identify these fantastic treats... but still two sold! I am definately not a sales person (I need Miss Rhea to come help me with that). In fact, right after the first woman (with great toad stool earrings) asked to buy the first chocolate I got kinda shaky and spilled hot coffee all over my hand and the floor. Then I ran in back and hid. I am perfectly ok handing out my chocolates to everyone (in fact that's been one of our biggest problems because we give away so many and have no money) but as soon as I'm selling them... it takes on a whole new meaning. Thankfully the toad stool woman peaked her head into the kitchen and said "The chocolate was amazing!"

I was walking on air. Actually, skipping and jumping and dancing. Yes, we do put on a show in the Little Red Bike kitchen every time a chocolate is sold.

I really have a lot to say about the chocolate(I ate one... for each one sold), but the selling part will have to take some practice. Tonight, I will hopefully have something informational written up so that I can distribute it tomorrow. I also plan on giving out samples tomorrow, so stop by the cafe to try a chocolate!

Thank you to Alli and Evan for being so rad! It's really awesome to have two people who really believe in what Rhea and I are trying to do, supporting and celebrating with us. Also thanks to Jake for making an investment in some raw chocolate and for his transportational services... he has a car. He has never been thanked publicly before and is very excited to have his name mentioned.

Peace
M

Today we did chocolate

Today we did chocolate.... well, everyday we do chocolate but today we did official chocolate in the awesome Little Red Bike Kitchen. It was good, it was great, it was filled with sweet intentions! ;) Alli, Jake, and I were taking lots of pictures. I felt like we had a new baby... which in some ways we do.
Another awesome new addition, the book "Naked Chocolate" by David Wolfe and Shazzie. Very good book which I plan to devour tonight.
Here are three very interesting things that I learned so far.
*Cacao contains a neurotransmitter called anandamide. It is naturally found in the human brain and is a "bliss" chemical. It fills the same receptor sites that THC (found in cannabis) does. Thus cacao can get you high... not in the same way as cannabis, but high nonetheless.

*Chocolate diminishes appetite. Apparently coco is in almost every weightloss product on the market.

*Cacao is a rich source of magnesium, serotonin, dopamine, and phenylethlamine. Magnesium is a mineral associated with active brain function and the other three are mood regulating neurotransmitters. The presence of these three neurotransmitters is associated with a higher sense of well-being. Thus cacao can make you happier and more well balanced.

There are many many more awesome properties to chocolate which I hope to blog about in the future. Until then, sweet dreams.

chocolate.slip.and.slide

Five boxes of divine chocolate have officially been mailed to Ms. Hedda in California, we are making our first batch of chocolates to be for sale at the Little Red Bike, and our myspace page, yes it is true, now has fifteen friends. We <3 heart <3 you.

Another new development- our chocolate is highly addictive. Once your body experiences the pleasure of our delectable raw vegan delights life will not be the same.

The evidence for this new development- we cannot stop eating them. We have had plans on several occasions to take them to Food Fight, Peoples, New Seasons, and the Alberta Coop to name a few, but thanks to the demands of our friends, roomates, and our lil' bellies, we are experiencing technical difficulties with this essential disbursement. Our only solace is knowing that these fine chocolates are ALIVE!~ with lots o love, goodness, and nutrition, and they are making our tummies dance.

So please, wish us luck on bringing them to you this Tuesday at the Little Red Bike,an awesome cafe on North Lombard and Fiske that is noticeable thanks to the red bike riding the rooftop, and we can't forget to mention the wonderful bike-thru window. And do check back soon for a chocolate rabbit release party coming to a green house near you!!
